SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

I'm trying to install SAS University Edition for the first time and get the same error every time. It is completely unhelpful because I have never used this software before so I have no idea what ti wants me to do. Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just give up and try R instead? I'm running Windows 10 on a 64 bit machine.

Here are my error messages:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine SAS University Edition.

The configuration constructor in main failed due to a COM error. Check the release log of the VM for further details. (VERR_MAIN_CONFIG_CONSTRUCTOR_COM_ERROR).

Oops, you're right @Reeza! I beg your pardon, @lgwaters. The answer, I think, is the same: To install a previous version.

Thanks!

Randy

Re: SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

Hi, @lgwaters. I've not seen that particular error (though Googling it did turn up some hits). I would suggest you make sure the download of the SAS University Edition "ova" file completed. It should be about 1.8GB.

There are certainly many, many Windows 10 users, so I don't think there is any particular reason it shouldn't work.

You are also welcome to send email to support@sas.com or call 1-800-727-0025 if you'd like to seek assistance that way.

You should pick a language based on your needs and future requirements not because you run into a hiccup in the installation.

Re: SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

Hi, @lgwaters. I've learned that the newest version of VirtualBox (5.1) breaks SAS University Edition on the Macintosh. I'm guessing that might be what you're finding.

You can download the previous version here:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_5_0

You'll want version 5.0.

Just uninstall the current version, 5.1, and install the 5.0 one. Let me know if this fixes the issue for you.

Thanks!

Re: SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

Thanks very much! Using the previous version means that it works now, then another help page resolved my subsequent conflict between my firewall and accessing the localhost, so I'm up and running! Cheers, Linda

Re: SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

When I resolved my issue, I actually changed two things the time it was successful: my virtual box version and one option during an uninstallation/reinstallation of SAS.

When you're unpacking SAS and loading it into virtual box, there's a checkbox at the bottom of the popup window that says reset all MAC addresses for network cards. I'll be honest that I had no idea what that really did (vaguely, yes, but not the specifics), but I checked it the one time my installation worked and did not check it any other time. Maybe one of the experts on here can tell you if that mattered to my success or not.

Re: SAS® University Edition Installation Problem COM Port Error

Hi Reeza,

I'm trying to install the Oracle Virtual Box and install the SAS University Edition for the first time and running into some issues. I have

1. installed the Oracle VM Box

2. created the SASUniversity Edition /myfolders

3. started the SAS University Edition session as mentioned in the document, but my virtual machine isn't working and i'm getting the below error message:

VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {402sv635-4a9b-8927-bee2-5511105b9xrd}

Please let me know.. what is that i'm missing or doing wrong !

Thanks.

@peter5 this is a common issue. Please see the video here:

If youre not a fan of videos search this error on this board and you'll see a link to step by step instructions.

SAS University Edition requires that you have virtualization enabled in order to run properly. Many computers may have virtualization disabled by default. This video shows you how to enable virtualization in your system's firmware. SUBSCRIBE TO THE SAS SOFTWARE YOUTUBE CHANNEL ...

Hi Reeza,

I ran the Intel Performance Utility and it shows VT is enabled and when i ran the Microsoft tool it shows VT is disabled. I'm not able to install SAS UE. Please advise.
