Programs hang using SAS University Edition

Hi all,

I am having trouble running programs using SAS University Edition via SAS Studio.

All the programs I try to run just seem to hang as in Picture1 here:

Picture1.jpg

I am accessing SAS University Edition via Oracle VM VirtualBox v5.1.12r112440 on a Win10 laptop.

For example, I have program Chapter4.glasto2.sas and dataset glastonburyfestival.sas7bdat stored on my computer at folder C:\Data\SAS\SASUniversityEdition\myfolders\sasuser.v94

I can see the 2 files in SAS Studio as seen in Picture2 here...

Picture2.jpg

yet when I try to run the program, it hangs. This seems to happen every time I run a program. I have tried re-starting SAS Studio, Oracle VM, and my computer several times and the result is always the same. Any program i try to run hangs.

I have also set the SAS University Edition settings in Oracle VM VirtualBox as recommended in other posts here in the communities forums

Do you have any advice on what I might be doing wrong? I can't get the two files in question to attach to this post, but would like to attach them if I can figure that out, so others might see if there are any issues.

Please let me know if you need any further information.

Many thanks for your help.

SSB

Re: Programs hang using SAS University Edition

v.94 may be a system folder, that you don't have access to.

I know for a fact that if you create subfolders unders myfolders you can directly access them, so perhaps thats an alternative? You can also map a shared drive to anywhere else on your computer that you want and work with that instead. Set the folder up in the shared folders section, same as myfolders and then refer to it as

/folders/myshortcuts/nameOfFolder

Glad it worked out for you!

What happens when you run the following:

proc means data=sashelp.class;

run;

Re: Programs hang using SAS University Edition

Hi Reeza,

It runs and shows me a table of means, std devs, mins and maxs for age, height and weight.

Thanks,

SSB

Re: Programs hang using SAS University Edition

To me that indicates that there is something wrong with your code/data, unfortunately UE has a tendency to hang sometimes when there is an issue with your code.

Can you try moving your data up a level to myfolders directly?

Then try the following:

libname myFiles '/folders/myfolders';

proc datasets library=myFiles;
run;

Re: Programs hang using SAS University Edition

Hi Reeza,

Running that code having moved the data up a level gives the following output:

Picture3.jpg

and running my code in that /folders/myfolders enables a successful run. The following is part of the output I get:

Picture4.jpg

So it seems that running everything directly in /folders/myfolders might be the solution.

Is this a recommended location to run programs? Why would running in /folders/myfolders/sasuser.v94 not work?

Thanks,

SSB.

If you run ONLY the libname statement in a new session does the log show a message like this?

NOTE: Libref MYDATA was successfully assigned
