JDBC is not part of the SAS/Access product that you can use with the University Edition. So you will not be able to use JDBC with SAS and the University Edition.

Thanx Cynthia for the reply.
Just one more question...
Is there any other way to connect with SAS University Edition from external java / dot net application?

I found this:
But it would require that the .sas7bdat files are visible in your host environment.
The SAS JDBC driver either connects to SAS/SHARE or a workspace server. SAS/SHARE is not part of SAS UE, and the workspace server in SAS UE will only be accessible to the SAS Studio in the VM and not an outside client.

Thanks For you assistance.
Is it possible to retrieve the definition and metadata of stored procedure or SAS program through proc SQL or via JDBC in any SAS edition.
Thanks in advance.

Do you actually mean a SAS Stored Process (used by the BI Platform) or do you mean a relational database stored procedure? They are different. If you mean a stored procedure, such as used by a relational database, then again, you do not have any SAS/Access products like JDBC, Oracle or DB2, so it will not be possible to read database files or database stored procedures with the SAS University Edition.
If you are asking about a SAS Stored Process and you want to "retrieve the definition and metadata" of SAS Stored Processes, then usually, you use either SAS Management Console to look at Stored Process metadata or you use SAS Enterprise Guide to look at the metadata for a Stored Process. Again, using SAS University Edition, you are not able to connect to a SAS Platform Metadata server, so you would not be able to read the Stored Process Metadata using the SAS University Edition. If, however, the stored process .SAS program is stored in an external repository someplace on your file system, you might be able to copy the stored process code to a location where you could at least review the code. Since you won't be able to run the code in the SAS University Edition, then you might as well just use Notepad to look at the Stored Process code.

SAS MC is a java app that is part of any SAS distribution. But it needs a connection to the metadata server to run. Since SAS UE does not offer a SAS MC for installation in the host OS of the VM, and the metadata server port is not accessible, you cannot (AFAIK) use the SAS MC with the UE. See also Cynthia's post.
UE is a basic learning tool for SAS, but to deal with advanced SAS techniques (like setting up stored processes), you need a properly licensed installation. Or attend the respective SAS courses.

What metadata? Are you using SAS University Edition? If so, there is NO SAS Management Console and NO metadata. So your question is moot. If you do have SAS Management Console then this question doesn't belong in the SAS Analytics U forum. There are other Community Forums for the BI Platform and Management Console questions.
If you want to know what you can do with SAS Management Console then you should read the Platform Administration documentation which describes all that you can do with the metadata, including backing it up, exporting it and managing the metadata with Management Console and using a program.
