Error: No space left on device -- SAS University Edition

I've run into some difficulties running the University Edition.  It was working just fine a couple of weeks ago, but now it is unable to load a somewhat sizable SPSS .SAV file (342MB) that I was able to work with just recently.  It was working fine with the VM VirtualBox Base Memory set at 1GB, but now it won't even work with the Base Memory set at 3GB (out of a possible 8GB).

I'm using VM VirtualBox, and I did an uninstall/reinstall (with the same version - 4.3.18 r96516) on that to no avail.  When I try to load the file, I get an SAS Studio error message that states "No space left on device" and when I click the details, I get the following information.
{}

One thing I notice is that on my memory monitor, the amount of memory being used doesn't increase much for VM VirtualBox.  Right now, according to the Windows Task Manager, it is only using 106MB.

This is the 2nd time I've had difficulty keeping the University Edition running; the last time required a complete uninstall/reinstall with a change from VMware to VirtualBox.  With all the hassles I've had keeping this going, it's getting to be the most expensive "free" software I've ever used.

My system that uses Windows 7.  Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Error: No space left on device -- SAS University Edition

I suspect you may be exceeding the number of records expected to be used by University Edition.

Please remember that UE is supposed to be a learning tool and not an actual work environment. If your "learning" project files are too big then the size should be reduced.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe the University Edition has a limit on number of records it will process. It does have a hard limit on 2 gigs of memory and 2 CPUs. I've read in a few million records as a test without issues except that, as expected, it was a bit slow. Maybe you're running out of physical memory or disk space on your local machine?

The documentation on the University Edition can be a bit difficult to locate, but I haven't seen any limits on the number of records either.  I was able to use the data file before, so I'm doubting that is the case.  I eventually did a uninstall/reinstall and it seems to be working, albeit verrrrry slooooowwwlly.

"No space left on device" refers to disk storage, not your memory. So look at how much disk space is assigned to the VM, and what the situation of your Windows is. Windows tends to clutter itself up with unneeded data like no other system I know.
