Hi Users,

I was wondering whether any one can help me. I have just purchased the SAS big data online courses, and I am steadily working through the exercises on the course. The SAS data management studio 2.6 has a number of repositories set up, but the one named Basic Solutions is supposed to have a long list of previously constructed data jobs for you to work through, but they are not there.

Is it something I have missed or do I need to contact someone at SAS?

Thanks

Hi:
The support folks who maintain the images are on holiday until Jan 2, 2020. I checked the location of the folders in the Exercise in chapter 2. In the course, in Chapter 2,

ch2_existing_repository_loc.png

It says that you should find the location of the folder is: D:\Workshop\dqdmp1\solutions\solutions.rps on the Virtual Lab image. Did you make a reservation? Do you find this folder on the 😧 drive on the Virtual Lab image? (Not on your machine.) You actually CREATE the Basic Solutions object in step e, as shown in the screen shot.

When you are on the Virtual Lab image, in a FRESH reservation, do you see the folder in the 😧 drive, as described above? You should be able to use the Windows File Explorer to see what is in that location on your image.

If you see the .rps file in that location in the Virtual Lab, then follow the exercise solution steps in Chapter 2 to define the Basics Solutions repository. If you do NOT see the .rps file in that location, then use the Technical Support button inside the VLE to report the missing folder on your Virtual Lab image. Please send a screen shot of your image 😧 drive, that shows the SAS Education Gateway tab for your reservation and shows that the folder is not there.

I understand from the class instructors that the exercises and demos in this course are cumulative. You cannot skip over anything in Chapter 2 before going on to Chapter 3. If you skip work in Chapter 2, you will not have files that you need in subsequent chapters.

You can also send mail to curriculumconsulting@sas.com and please let us know exactly what course you are working in, what chapter or lesson in the course, what step in the demo or practice where you did not find the data. We need to check which version of the Big Data program you purchased and we need your email for that as well as the other information. We are checking mails over the break and answering the ones that are possible to answer.

Thanks,
Cynthia

Cyntha_sas,

Done all the checks you suggested, not helpful. Still do not have access to data jobs in the basic solutions repository under batch jobs folder. Any other suggestions of solutions would be helpful.

Thanks

Does that mean that the work in Chapter 2 failed? Did anything else fail between Chapter 2 and Chapter 6? If the file is not there on your 😧 drive, then that means the Chapter 2 work was not successful. Is that correct?

I recommend that you send a screen shot of your Virtual Lab image to CurriculumConsulting@sas.com that shows the folder location is empty on the image. The only way the instructors can investigate is if they know EXACTLY where you were working in the course and what failed.

Hi:

I just made a reservation for a fresh image and I followed the Chapter 2 steps to define the Basics Solutions repository. Here are the instructions I followed:

df_instructions_ch2.png

When I was done following ALL the steps, I clicked on the Folders riser bar to look inside the Basics Solutions folder and then expanded the batch_jobs folder to see the jobs that were contained inside:

df_batch_solutions.png

There does not appear to be any issue with the Amazon Virtual Lab image. So, if you were working from a SAVED image and if you were originally successful with the Chapter 2 setup instructions, then something must have happened to either corrupt your image or delete the files on your 😧 drive (which seems unlikely, but might have happened accidentally).

I recommend that you make a new Virtual Lab reservation for a FRESH image and go back to re-create the Basics Solutions repository following the instructions as shown in Chapter 2. Immediately after you create the repository, you should be able to expand the Folders riser bar and then expand the batch_jobs folder under Basics Solutions to see this same list of jobs.

Typically starting from a FRESH image usually fixes any oddities like this.
