SAS® OnDemand for Academics is temporary unavailable (maintenance). I hope this won't be long.

Meantime, you can use for example SAS university edition https://www.sas.com/en_us/software/university-edition/download-software.html

I'm having the same trouble - I get a 503 service unavailable instead of log in prompt - however the status page indicates that all is well for the site. Is this the same problem others are seeing?

You should use sas university edition to avoid these kind of outage.
