Hi ,

We do DC migration for all the SAS servers. We need to know whether any re-licensing is required after the servers are cloned in target server and also we should know whether the SAS licensing is based on IP Address or MAC address?

Can anyone answer to this query?

Other than this, we need to know the steps required for DC migration after the cloning of servers is completed.

We need to list down the responsibilities of SAS admin for DC migration as well. Can anyone explain this in detail to plan our activities in a better way?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Sampath

Hi:

This is really something that you need to work on with your Sales Representative (about the licensing) and with Tech Support (about the migration).

Hi,

This is something we cant do at the moment. Because entire DC with existing vendor. We are going to take over from them after the transition. Meanwhile we are in the process to build our DC.

In General, We are trying to understand the license issues during DC migration after server cloning for SAS.

Can you help us at this moment to understand it generically as we cant do anything thru SAS track or sales rep?

Thanks,
Sampath

Licensing isn't an issue where cloning is involved and the clone is a genuine Disaster Recovery installation. SAS will still work but issue warnings that you are not running on a licensed CPU. This is perfectly OK if you are running just on your DR platform, or just on your primary one, NOT both at the same time. In my experience SAS licensing covers these scenarios. If you are referring to a permanent data center shift then as long as you engage with SAS and advise them what you are doing then they will be quite accommodating.

Usually SAS licences work on CPUID although licence files may not necessarily include these.
