zip code from the address!

Hi everybody,

I have the list of the addresses with the street, city, and state. How can I find zip codes for the list?

If you enter a space separated string of your address_city+state as a search string at www.mapquest.com, part of the output will contain the zipcode.  E.g., I enterted: 709 WESTCHESTER AVENUE    WHITE PLAINS    NY

and mapquest returned:

709 Westchester Ave White Plains, NY 10604-3103 United States


where zipcode was returned as a separate field.

The following paper provides example code for automating such a lookup process:

http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings12/091-2012.pdf

To use it, you would have to get an API key from Mapquest, but that is free and easily done from their web site.

you could try to use the sashelp.zipcode dataset to get the zipcodes.
