If I want to open SAS dataset and export them to Excel, which one should I download?

SAS system viewer

or

SAS Universal viewer

Neither will export to Excel. If you need to import and convert to Excel and don't have SAS installed try using R instead.

The SAS System Viewer is a much easier to use product as it will only open the file you select instead of trying to read the headers for all of the data sets in the same directory.  You can open a small dataset and copy and paste the data into Excel (but watch out how Excel interprets what gets pasted, strings that look like numbers Excel has a tendency to convert to numbers).

But they are not updating the System Viewer and some newer SAS dataset formats are not supported (64 bit version 9 datasets from Unix hosts for example).
