As part of our future product roadmaps, we are considering providing web-based interfaces for SAS Management Console and SAS Information Map Studio. We are researching the different technical approaches we could take, and one question that comes up is whether the market would support the use of applets. What do you think? Would your organization support having to download applets for an administrative web interface?
I would prefer effort spent on scriptable common tasks such as adding a library or logical server. The logic is already embedded in the plugins. Most administrators do not want to be following a wizard and typing values. A script is repeatable and you get a log.
I would need to know which web-based design is being considered before expressing an opinion. I think the javaws design used by Enterprise Miner 5.2 (and Model Manager) is good although we will always have some challenges with JRE versions.
