One of my users is using SAS University edition 3.3. She runs the software via a virtual machine using VMware (4.3.20) on Windows 7. She has some local data in the ~/SASUniversity.../myfolders directory. If she forgets to shut down the virtual machine properly, her locally stored folders in the myfolders directory are deleted. This has happened twice in the last few weeks, and I've had to restore the folders from backup.  I am certain that this is not a "user error". Is there a mechanism to prevent this from happening? Has this happened to anyone else?

This has just happened to me minutes ago. I have lost ALL my dissertation  work of the last few months. Please HELP! I have not shutdown the machine improperly. I just shut down it as usual
