How to import an Oracle database to SAS

I have SAS on windows with EG.  But I don't have Oracle software.  The database is a Oracle dump file.  How could I access the database and convert that to SAS format for each of the table contained in the dump file?  Thank you!

There are to my knowldge no SAS tool that support Oracle dump files.

You need to convert it to a SAS readable format, including different flat files or RDBMS.

There are some third party converter tools out there, but I have no experience in using them.

Even if you don't have Oracle locally on you computer, by restoring the dump file to a remote Oracle DB, you can access it using SAS/ACCESS to Oracle or ODBC.

I don't have an Oracle software.  It seems extremely expensive.

So...?

Your options would be:

  • Convert the dump file to a SAS readable format
  • Go to the source and ask for a different format
  • Install Oracle Express 32-bit version (should work on 64-bit Windows)
  • And as you suggested, install on Linux

Try (if possible) to install ORACLE Express (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/express-edition/overview/index.html) on your PC and load the ORACLE dump file into it, then

Either -Export the individual tables as text files

OR, if you have SAS/ACCESS to ORACLE, use the ORACLE libname engine to access the tables.

Just a thought,

The thing is that there doesn't seem to be a 64 bit version for Win 7.  I'm going to do it in Linux to give it a try.  Thanks -
