How to import a balance sheet and income statement into SAS?

I would like to import an income statement and a balance sheet into SAS. The problem is that the headings are dates. When I import the income statement SAS changes the date into a number with an underscore?

For example, the date 12/31/2013 is converted to _41639. I would like to keep the headings as dates in order to create a SAS Table and Report.

Thank you,

Todd

Re: How to import a balance sheet and income statement into SAS?

Todd,

There's a difference between variable names and labels. Labels are used to control the display of the information so you can make some very fancy reports using them.

Variable names are more important for the programming aspect only not the reporting/display.

A very basic example:

data class;

set sashelp.class;

label age='Age (Years)'

  weight='Weight (lbs)'

  height='Height (inches)'

  sex='Gender'

  name='Students Name';

run;

proc print data =class label noobs;

run;

Label the variables and use the labels instead of the variable names.

I would change the variable name to something more readable as well, year2013 for example.

What file type is the data you imported? Excel, csv, tab delimited, something else?

How did you import the data?

Different file types and methods allow different control options.

Excel file.

I would like to create a professional report that will include the dates as headings so year2013 is a good idea but would not be appropriate for my purpose.

Thank you both ballardw and Reeza,

you cant even add " _" to your dates(12/12/2013_,13/12/2013_,....)?
