Yes, this one is tricky. I assume you have the following environment:
1. You are running EG on your Windows PC.
2. Your EG is connecting to a SAS server on Unix/Linux.
3. You want your SAS code on the SAS server to reference a SQL/Server database. Since SQL/Server only runs on Windows, that's the platform it's on.
Microsoft doesn't provide a native client for SQL/Server on Unix/Linux (unlike EVERY OTHER dbms, something you might want to point out to whoever picked SQL/Server for a mixed environment).
I don't have access to the mixed environment anymore, but the last time I did this I used software from a company called DataDirect (which I believe is the one that SAS tests with). There might be others, I'm not an expert in this.
Setting up the environment on the Unix box is a little funky, but once you get it going it works fine. Here are some links to provide more info.

Thanks very much Tom!! I am not sure whether I will be try to this out as I may not have access to DataDirect. But ,I will check out with the platform team if they do support this.
