This being an international forum, is it possible to use the neutral yyyy-mm-dd date format rather than the confusing (to us) mm-dd-yyyy or confusing (to North-Americans) dd-mm-yyyy formats?

You should be able to change your locale to show what ever date format you want....  under your stuff -> Preferences

Are you sure?

This makes no difference to em whatsoever. Even the French locale still shows 2 PM instead of 14.

I can't find yyyy-mm-dd anywhere.

I should have asked, what dates do you want changed... as mine macth my locale....  I don't even see a french locale....

It only lets you pick French if you are in a Country that has French as an official language.  However, I didn't see a way to change the date format.

I can pick between 7 languages, none of them Māori, and I am pretty sure French isn't an official language in NZ  ...  yet.  Smiley Happy

Anyways, no way to display yyyy-mm-dd dates there as far as I can see.

My Locale is set to New Zealand and the date format is dd-mm-yyyy, I would imagine if my locale was US it would be mm-dd-yyyy - ok you are right I can't change the fmt of the date but it is in the fmt tha I understand so I don't need to change.

I would say it is linked to the locales defined on your pc. - If there is such a thing....

I'll try to make my (maybe worthless) point again.

If the date is not displayed as yyyymmdd, I have to look at a bunch a posts, hopefully one with a number > 12, trying to guess which format is used. Some forums use locale, some try to use locale and fail, some don't bother.

I now know that this one forum uses locale. I'll try to remember when I come back, though I'd rather use my head to store more useful information.

The point is: if the date is displayed with year first, its format becomes obvious, easy to read without hesitation, and fail proof. So I reckon it would be an enhancement to always use this format.

My 2 cents anyway.

This is a user preference thing and shouldn't be done globally, as I and I am sure many others don't like the format in this instance that you suggest.  However I do agree that you should be able to customise your view to display what ever date format you want to see.

All of my dates show in the format: %b %d , %Y  %I:%M %p
