Estimating CI for rate

Hi,

I have a set of age group specific death rate per 10,0000 population [calculated using (total number of deaths in a age group/total population of that age group*10,000)]. How do I calculate 95 % CI for these rates? It is not the same as calculating CI for averages.

Thank you for your support.

Re: Estimating CI for rate

Take a look at proc freq with the binomial option.

Re: Estimating CI for rate

Thank you very much Reeza,

I tried doing that, but I am not sure if this is the case because my data is rate but the binomial option works with the proportion.

Re: Estimating CI for rate

Otherwise, I think you're stuck doing a manual calculation in a data step.

If you're doing standardization maybe something in PROC STDRATE.

Re: Estimating CI for rate

I am not doing standardization, so may be I should try manual calculation. Thank you.
