Hi,
I have a set of age group specific death rate per 10,0000 population [calculated using (total number of deaths in a age group/total population of that age group*10,000)]. How do I calculate 95 % CI for these rates? It is not the same as calculating CI for averages.

Take a look at proc freq with the binomial option.

I tried doing that, but I am not sure if this is the case because my data is rate but the binomial option works with the proportion.
It says proportion but looks like rate to me...
Otherwise, I think you're stuck doing a manual calculation in a data step.
If you're doing standardization maybe something in PROC STDRATE.
I am not doing standardization, so may be I should try manual calculation. Thank you.
