Dear all,

How are you?

I'm very puzzled because I have this SAS data that has a few numeric variables containing alphabets.

I have checked that there is no formats attaching to them and no 'option missing='x' being specified in the SAS program.

What could possibly go wrong here?

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

You may be looking at special missing values. Look for example at the result of this test:

data test;

do x = 123, .a, .e, .i, .o, .u;

    output;

    end;

run;

proc print data=test; run;
