I have a column of character type with content like (00001) and want to append it to an oracle column of varchar2(8) . All other columns append with no problem.

You need to provide some more inforamtion.  When you say your "appending", do you mean you have some data that is being inserted at the end of the table?  How are you doing this, what code are you running.  Are you sure that column in your dataset is character and not numeric with a Z5. format applied?  Etc.

i'm using proc append base=temp_ska_nur(sasdatefmt=(inserted_at='datetime20.'))  data=tu.into_d_mpc force ; run;

type of the column is character length 8 format $8.

Glad you could resolve the issue. Of course in nearly 40 years of programming of one flavor or another I have never misspelled anything. Honest. Really. :}

And if you believe that I have some ocean front property in Montana going cheap.
