Hi all,

 

Which SAS macro program that I can use to generate Charlson Comorbidity Index for ICD-9 and ICD-10?

Are you familiar with CDC's HCUP NIS database? That website has macro's for charlson comorbiditity index I think so (or Elixhauser's comorbidity index).

Hi Jack.  There are a number of variations on the Charlson and a lot of different code sources.

SEER publishes a version of the code but it's specific to cancer populations:

There's a Canadian group that has a lot of fantastic resources.  I have heard that Canadian dx patterns and codes could differ slightly from code patterns in the US, though, so that's a caveat.

Lastly, if you work for an organization that is part of HCSRN, there are standardized versions of the Charlson and other comorbidity indices available.
