Take for example the following statement from the HHMMw.d Format documentation:
The HHMM format uses asterisks to format values that are outside the time range 0–24 hours,
such as datetime values.
The same statement appears in the MMSSw.d Format documentation. It is not true, these formats are not limited to 24 hours worth of hours or minutes, respectively.
I wish there was a community on the forum to report and discuss such inaccuracies.
Thank you for catching and reporting this particular inaccuracy! I've forwarded it to the documentation team.
Currently there are two options to report inaccuracies: 1) within the corresponding community and 2) through the feedback form on the online doc.
Thanks for your idea for a dedicated doc community. There aren't plans to create such a space, but I encourage everyone to give it "likes" to increase visibility.
Thanks, Anna. I'm working on the doc issue with R&D. I'll post about the doc changes later.
I regularly report defects, whether documentation or programmatic bugs, to tech support (I should be paid by SAS QA really).
Would defects (of any sort) have a better chance of being taken into account if the source is user communities?
I'd think not, but I may be wrong.
At least in the Community there would be a public record of the problems and in some cases a clarification of the issues.
My apologies for not addressing this issue in the last release of the documentation for formats. I’ll take care of it in the next release.
