How 4.1 Subscription is different than 3.5 ?

SDD 3.x subscription

In SDD 3.x you can subscribe by clicking on a folder / file and then selecting the subscribe action item.

When you subscribe at the folder level, you are presented with the below options which let you subscribe to notification(s) when any of the below events take place on the folder or you can also subscribe to its child events too. The notification message can be received as an internal message in SDD or to an Email address specified in the User Settings for any of the events that are checked for subscription.

One limitation of 3.x subscription is there is no way to keep track of all these subscriptions.  In order to unsubscribe one needs to remember to which folder or files one has subscribe and has to explicitly go back to that folder/file and uncheck
the subscription event in order to unsubscribe notification(s).

SDD 4.x Subscription

You can subscribe to an event that affects a repository object or an event that affects a non-repository item, such as a work item or a schedule. If you subscribe to an event on a container in the repository, you can choose to include all of the child objects within the container. In addition to subscribing to an individual event, you might inherit event subscriptions as a member of a group. In SDD 4.x there are two types of Subscription

1. Event Subscription by Subscriber

If you want to subscribe to multiple events for a single user then select the subscriber perspective. You can subscribe to one or more events.

To add the event subscription to child objects of the current object, select the check box in the Cascade column In order to subscribe for others you need to have privilege  - Manage All Subscription

2.  Event Subscription by Event

If you select the events perspective, the events are listed, and then you can add one or more users as subscribers. Select this perspective when you want to see which users are subscribed to an event.

Subscription Management

You can manage all your subscription from one centralized location under Edit my account. You can remove subscription to the events to which you have subscribed. However you can remove subscription to events which you have inherited.

But Event Subscription view provides one central location to view and review current subscription for an individual user.
