Hi,

Has anyone used the NTFS compression option on folders with SAS datasets in them?  Has this helped execution, been a problem or resulted in issues?

It uses LZ compression which typically will save a lot of space, but there are times when MS recommends against using it.

Thanks!

I've used this a lot with SAS 9.1.3 and it has been no problem at all. You can compress folder by folder or file by file and Windows just handles this transparently. I've also used the SAS COMPRESS= option at the same time and that is also OK. In combination you do get seriously good compression and for large datasets it does improve processing times.
