Dear all

 I have the below table:

date  group  weight  name

5/31   r         10       jarr

5/31  r         20       larr

5/31   r         30       narr

5/31  m       0         sl

5/31  m       20         ksl

6/30   r         10      jarr

6/30  r         20       narr

6/30   r         30       larr

6/30 m       0         ksl

6/30 m       20         sl

I would like to get the maximum weight and name for each date grouped by the group

so the output would look like

5/31  r        30       narr

5/31  m       20         ksl

6/30   r         30       larr

6/30 m       20         sl

Thanks very much

If you have more than one name with the maximum weight what would the output look like?

This should get one record per date group:

proc sort data=have;
   by date group descending weight;
run;

data want ;
   set have;
   by date group;
   if first.group;
run;
