anyone know anything about format FREE ?

it sits in sashelp.vformat

does not appear in the on-line doc at Dictionary of Language elements: formats

it is referred to at Usage Note 30738: SAS formats that are not supported in the Java environment at http://support.sas.com/kb/30/738.html

I notice this unfamiliar format because it was causing trouble for me in the date_format_hunter referred to in message
http://support.sas.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=45745#45745

I wonder what I'm missing?

Hi Peter

As much as I know you're missing nothing. There is just a bunch of intentionally not documented formats. "FREE" is one of it.

Not sure why they are not documented (obsolete, never productive or for internal SAS use only?).

Nice would be if such formats also would be excluded from dictionary.formats.
