how to define alphanumerics on sas

Its a good idea to provide as much information as possible when asking a question, this helps us give good answers.  From what I can gather from that, you would create character varaibles:

data want;
  length char_var $100;
  char_var="ABC1234";
run;
PaigeMiller

Definitely, your question needs a lot more explanation about what you want to do ... however ... as a guess:

 

Use the ANYALNUM function.
