Dear,

 

I am using the following sas statement .

 

code;

 

DTF = choosec(countw(date, "-"),"M", "D", " ");

 

                  data

 

 OBS          date

       1      2014-10-10

       2     2014-19

       3      2014

       4

 

ouput needed;

 

OBS         DTF

1      

2                D

3                M

4

 

I am getting the output I need except fourth OBS. For the fourth OBS I am getting "M"

Which modifier I need to use when the date value is blank to get the output. Please help. Thanks.

I have tested it. You can do:

 

if not missing(date) then

   dtf = choosec(countw(date,'-'),'m','d',' ');
