Base SAS contains two classes of regular expression functions; the older SAS Regular Expressions and the newer (added version 9) Perl Regular Expressions. I'm going to need to do some work with regexps, and I'm wondering which set SAS offers a higher level of support for. I don't want to invest in learning one, just to have it deprecated.

I would use Perl RegEx as they follow a broader standard and will more likely be the ones which will be extended and prevail.

I suggest that you should use Perl Regular Expressions.
