I'm curious whether SAS Multi-Insert technology actually invokes something similar to PL/SQL "forall" inserts. The speed is very similar on systems that I'm using. Both are almost the same speed assql*loader

This specific question is best answered by a SAS/ACCESS developer.
Try to get an answer via tech support, or if you attend Global Forum - grab someone at the demo stations.

In my mind, there are some situations when bulkload is faster, especially for really large loads.

We have found that "forall" out performs bulkload in our situation. We ended up making Oracle "forall" Procedures to call from SAS.
