Numeric column in a dataset has "C" as a value

A variable in a dataset is of type numeric, but shows a value 'C' when viewed or printed. Format is best12.

SAS Output:

      10
      21
      27
      12
      C
      10
      16

What does it mean? Is it missing? How do I exclude such values?

Re: Numeric column in a dataset has "C" as a value

Its a special missing, you may find this paper helpfull:

http://www2.sas.com/proceedings/sugi31/025-31.pdf

And you can use the missing() function:

http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/lrdict/64316/HTML/default/viewer.htm#a000509996.htm

Or check specifically for that.
