Looking for batch UNIX Method for Allocating SAS Datasets for Append or CAT

I'm looking for a UNIX equivalent to a MVS technique. In MVS a datasat can be opened as MOD so that additional records will automatically be appended to the end. I need to do the same thing in UNIX but have not found the syntax.

Note that this is not a PROC APPEND or PROC DATASETS type of action. The volume of data is too high to make hundreds of thousands of datasets and append them together. This process needs to write to a single output file as the data is derived.

Does anybody know the UNIX method for opening a file for appending records or the location of this method in SAS docs?

Is this a SAS question? Or is it purely about UNIX file management? What do you mean by "data is derived"?
You can use cat command to concatenate files.

I figured out how to do it with filename instead of libname. It is pretty much the same as MVS using the NEW then MOD options with the unix filename. No PIPE.
