I'm curious about SCL (SAS Component Language).  Is it part of Base SAS, or does it require an additional license?  What advantages, if any, does SCL have over standard Base SAS Data steps?

My response on whether SCL is part of Base is: sort of. Some of the functions that are listed as SCL functions will actually work in Datastep programming. Other bits work with registry entries or window commands.

Generally though SCL is more associated historically with AF and FSP and is designed for writing more interactive applications.
