I finally got sick of not being able to preview SAS programs attached to email when using Outlook that I looked into why it couldn't.  It turns out that the fix is easy.  You just need to edit the Windows Registry and tell it that the PerceivedType for .sas files is text.  Then Outlook knows that it is ok to let you preview the file.

There is a nice example of exactly what needs to change on SuperUser.com.

Not sure why this isn't the default for .sas files.  Perhaps this is something that SAS can fix in the installation routines for PC SAS? Or perhaps it is fixed, but installaiton was rolled out to individual machines properly in my large company?
