Be careful that the password change in metadata has to be mirrored in the configuration files.
For a 9.2 single-server Visual Data Discovery, simpler than BI or EBI (SAS EG + Metadata + IT + Wk/Stp ), we had the same issue and
I avised the admin in charge to follow this path :
1. as Jaap said, you'll need to log on the SMC with an Unrestricted user , either already defined in Metadata or using a new undefined host account in the adminusers.txt (in this last case, restart to take the change into account)
2. go to the User Manager and change the sasadm@saspw password ("update"): remember you cannot reuse the last 5 passwords . This change will be temporary.
3. close this SMC session
4. launch the SAS Deployment Manager (preferably the one installed on the Metadata host) and select "Update Passwords"
5. connect with the sasadm@saspw credentials you have just modified
6. then, in the "User Ids" selection panel, select "sasadm@saspw" (if you have also forogotten sastrust@saspw password, then make the selection accordingly to include it the reset)
7. Specify the new sasadm@saspw password
8. crucial task - this time keep the pwd safe "somewhere" else : from the sticky note underneath your keyboard up to Wallix AdminBastion or Fort Knox - depending on your habit/rules/location, it's up to you 😉
9. look at the log generated by SDM to be sure it's OK. This process will propagate the credentials change in the config. files thus synchronising your change properly.
10. restart your platform and log on with the new sasadm@saspw credentials.
Point 8 might be the most difficult to apply.
