Is there any difference in functionality between the two?
If not I would suspect it would work - but of course it needs to be tested. I asume that you have a test environment...

How do you refer to your SQL server in your SAS database connections? Do you refer to it by the actual server name or do you use a CNAME. If you have a DR environment it is best practice to use a CNAME (a logical name) in database connections, as this will refer to your Prod environment normally but can be switched to DR by your IT guys and you don't need to change any connections.
