Hello all,

We would like to use SAS environment management more and more for monitoring of our SAS environments. We have seen that you can configure sms alerting when your system is down. We have tried to configure this option, but we can't find any information about the configuration steps of this option.

I have read the SAS Environment Manager 2.5 User’s Guide, page 80 (https://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/evug/69029/PDF/default/evug.pdf), but there is a limited information about this.

I am curious if there are people that already have configured the sms alerting for SAS EVM and can help us further with the configuration.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't specifically setup SMS notifications in SAS Environment Manager but I have with other applications in the past. This was done with an email-to-SMS gateway service where you could send an email message to an SMTP server which then sent it as a text message e.g. phonenumber@gatewaysmtpserver.example.com

This may be an option if you don't get any better suggestions: i.e. configure SAS Environment Manager for email alerts where the email alerts are sent via a email-to-SMS gateway service.

We did this YEARS ago (9.2), so it predates Environment Manager, but it was still platform SAS alerting using SMS. Simplest solution was to leverage existing email capability and send small email messages to 5559991234@phonecompany.com. That was a simple enough solution for us. Other companies had an SMS gateway that you could message.

The solution really isn't "SAS" per se, but integration with 3rd party solutions.

Caveat: of course, this assumes that whatever is causing your platform failure is also NOT causing your alerting capability to fail as well.. (I have found through bitter experience that lack of bad news does not automatically mean good news..)

If alerting is that time-critical, then I'd suggest a combination of SAS alerting and non-SAS alerting (Tivoli, BMC Patrol, etc) should a critical SAS service fail.

Hello @sergie89,

nothing really new to add, just exactly as @AndrewHowell and @PaulHomes indicated, you need a external solution, email-to-SMS solution.

From the software provider (VMWare):

SMS Gateway examples:

There are lots of in-house solutions in the market, and I am sure your company has one already.
