Anyway to create a SAS 'public' folder that exists on the Metadata server?

The short version of the question: is there a way to create a public folder on a SAS Metadata server so that "File > Open ..." in Enterprise Guide works in this directory, other than a mapped drive?

The long version:

A Small research group at our Edu wanted a SAS server to offload their computing and share files with others in the group that use STATA. Enterprise Guide is new to them (all of SAS is new to my group) and we don't understand exactly how to setup resources in Metadata and Enterprise Guide.

We have figured out how to give users 'space' on the sever when they are in Enterprise Guide "Server List > Servers > SASApp".  However they need a way to see a folder on the server that will contain data sets shared with them by other users, who may not be SAS users themselves.  I have duct-tapped one way of doing this by creating a symbolic link in their "My Documents/My Shared Files/9.3" directory to a shared directory.  But I want to see if there is a better way to do it.
