We tried installing SAS but stopped in between, then we started another installation and this one completed. They have all the stuff needed installed now. Do we have to go through the install one more time even though the installation completed the second time ?

I am in the same situation and want to add same user to a different group with a different authentication Domain. Adding same user to the same group with different authentication domain is not an option at least no tan easy one.

Create login with same User ID

Hi All,

I am new to SAS and trying to add login for our DB so that users can access the DB seamlessly. When I try to do that I get the following error "Cannot add login. userid is already used by another user or group". We are using the same user id for Prod environment but want to use it for UAT environment also . As per excerpts from SAS documentation shown below I should be able to use the same ID as long as I am using different domain. Is this really possible ?

"If you give a user two logins that contain the same user ID, the logins must be in different authentication domains. Within an authentication domain, each user ID must be unique. For example, if you give Tara O'Toole two logins that both have a user ID of tara, then you cannot associate both of those logins with the OraAuth authentication domain. As with the previous requirement, this requirement is case-insensitive and is applied to the fully qualified form of the user ID. "

Thank you paul. Adding the group to folder authorization tab worked. We have a small group of users (<10) and are not even in the initial stages of setting up a security map. In our current environment all the users log in with one user id and I am trying to get away from that to begin with.

Thanks Jaap for your response. I am in fact using group for assigning rights and adding this user to the group. I guess I shouldn't have omitted that detail . So the behavior I observed is for group instead of user. I do have experience with other software but am new to the SAS world.

- I do get the concept of assigning right to groups and controlling access at group level but what do you mean by "discrete profile" and "act's applied to resources like a library"

- By OS controls do you mean at the DB level?

I am trying to give access to a new user to existing library. I have added the user to Authorization tab and granted them RM,WM,CM,R,W,C rights. But when I check the properties of tables included in the library I don't see that user in the list of authorized users. So my question is:

1) Do I have to add that user to each existing table in the library. In the future for new tables the access will propagate as expected.

2) Even though I don't see the user added to each table the permissions are propagated since they are added to the library.

Thanks.
