I've come across some training institutes offering SAS and Analytics courses, but most of them use only Base SAS or SAS Enterprise Guide.

Are there institutes in Bangalore providing training on SAS Enterprise Miner?

I heard about this unique tools which helps excel users to use SAS capabilities.

Can someone guide me as to how I can install this?

I tried install this recently but the installation dialog box was asking for SAS Home directory. I couldnt go further without specifying the home directory.

I tried mentioning the path were SAS installation file is stored, but it doesnt work.

Re: I have some dumb questions about EG 4.3 ... 1. How do you prevent the project flow from displaying and 2. How do reuse a query generated by the query builder. I'm used to 4.0 and have gotten lost in 4.3.

Hi Jim,

I will try to answer the 2nd question on query builder. If you want to modify the query you can right click the query builder under "Project Tree" and choose 'Modify Query Builder' and make changes to the query.

If you dont want to retain the query and instead create a copy and modify, you can do that by copying the query and modifying the copy (as mentioned above). This would be a case where you want to do another similar query which is a slight variation of the first query. Hope this helps.

If you want to show or present the output or results you could use the export option to save the output in PDF format.

Thank you so much for explaining in detail about the library in SAS. Your suggestions were highly valuable. Now I understand that all important work needs to go to user created permanent libraries (not WORK). Thanks.

I have one question.

I was able to store the output file in my own library. But it was in a table format (which is not good).

So I ran the analysis again and created a Custom Report and it was saved on server. I was able to export the reports and download to my system. Is there a way I can save the custom reports in my library ? Though its not appearing in my library Im still able to access it whenever I log-on to SAS server.

Query Builder - Re-coding works, but Adv. Expression Editor doesnt seem to be saved when I open new session

I was recently working on a small project on car brands, where I had to code the brands.

I used the Query builder and did the following :-

1) recode a column (computing new variable and existing variable) &

2) Computing a new variable using existing variable by doing some math calculations (using adv. Expression editor)

After completing my tasks and saving the projects I saw a warning saying that my Query file is a temporary file and will be lost.

When I came back and opened the project I found only my data file open with recoding changes (as in (1) above).

But the query and calculations were lost.

How do I save the query as well as the result of the query? I want to save this on SAS library as well as on my local disk. How to do this?

What is the basic difference between Infile and Import statement?

In case of Import SAS reads and raw data and creates a SAS data file. What happens in case of INFILE?

Is there any difference in the format of the data or impact on calculations or making changes to the file?

I'm not sure about the origin of the data file (whether Unix env. or not). I'm assuming it was created in windows.

Hi Patrick,

I'm unable to attach the txt file. Hence I've pasted the data above.

Test4 is a regular text file and the delimiter is space.

There are no inconsistencies such as missing data, wrong delimiter, etc.

To answer your question, I'm running the code in Windows.

I tried using TRUNCOVER, but still seeing the same output. Please advice.

Reading data from text files

Hi,

I have a text file (test4.txt) which has the following columns

Gender, Age, S1, S2, S3 and S4. Here S1-S4 are numeric variables.

The program or code below worked fine on SAS desktop learning edition. But when I ran it on the EG 4.3 it is not reading correctly.

The data on the last columns it not being read. Sometimes zero is read as zero and sometimes it is read as"blank/null"

How do I ensure that SAS reads the data correctly? Please advice.

The code I wrote is below:-

data lib2.test4;

infile "/home/sridhar78/sridharv/test4.txt";

input gender$ age s1 s2 s3 s4;

run;

Data file "text4.txt"

Male 27 1 8 0 0

Female 29 3 14 5 10

The semicolon was placed wrongly. Without it the proc import would have worked. Good catch.

I'll try the 'infile' option next time.

I learnt that SAS is one of the most powerful tools for data or business analysis.

It also have plenty of options or features to customize/code to get the required output.

But real life business problems may require quick solutions to know

1) top X customers

2) highest order value

3) frequently sold product

Are there in-built functions for filtering or sorting and getting the required results ? For instance name of the customer with highest revenues.

Is there a way I can use an in-built function and further customize it using code?

I also have a query reg. copying/extracting date from one column to another. Please answer this if time permits - it will be very helpful.

I was trying to extract Invoice date info. to another column (i.e from invoice_date col to inv-date). The code is below.

data lib1.comp_new;

set lib1.comp;

inv_date=input(invoice_date,datetime22.);

format inv_date datetime22.;

run;

The reason I'm doing this is Invoice_Date has date and time info, whereas I need only the date, so I'm copying the date parameters to Inv_Date. Any suggestions?

Proc Import not successful

Hello Everyone,

I tried to import a CSV file in SAS using Proc Import and was unsuccessful. The code is given below.

proc import datafile="E:\Sridhar\Analytics\SAS Course Material\case study\computer_peripherels\comp.csv";

Out=lib1.comp dbms=csv;

run;

After several attempts I imported through the wizard so that I can move and and complete my work. Let me know

what are the errors or issues in the code above. The file patch is correct and the CSV file has "comma" as delimiter.

Two quick questions

1) Is there any difference between doing a Proc Import through Code vs. doing it via the File>Import data wizard or alternatively copying the file on to the server.

2) Can you guide me on the graphical/menu options for importing, exporting, copying files ? This will help me save time on coding for these and spend more time on

the analysis part of the code.
