Hello,

Just wondering if anybody knows if it possible to view Temp user Data that is in memory? Thinking temp items like data explorations etc.

I've been looking at http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/inmsref/67213/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p1m52mxa0rr8sdn1hq3mck0qv1sl.htm and this details Promoting Temporary Tables to Regular Tables but I've not yet found how to see Temp Data in memory.

Thanks,

Thank you for your response.

We have VAAR. And also our Compute tier is Windows and the VA is linux.

So based on your response this means that VA auditing is not supported on our environment unfortunately.

Thank you, from Bobbie's video - She details that:

'If the Visual Analytics middle and server tiers are on separate machines which are not the same operating system, the audit data feed is not supported'

We have our our Web App Middle-Tier on a Windows server and our VA Server tier is Red-Hat linux so does this mean that VA Auditing will not work at all?

Hello All,

We've got SAS 9.4M2 - VA 7.2 - but I can't currently find a AUDIT_VISUALANALYTICS dataset being produced anywhere.

EMI Framework settings are like this:

EMI Framework Setting...

EMI Framework Initialized [true]
APM Initialized [true]
ACM Initialized [true]
KITS Initialized [true]
APM Enabled [true]
ACM Enabled [true]
KITS Enabled [true]
VA Feed Enabled [true]

Also in SAS MC va.AudtingEnable is set to true.

So just wondering does anybody know which EMI Framework process produces the AUDIT_VISUALANALYTICS dataset and why it is not getting created?

Hello All,

FYI - We are seeing a kind of opposite behaviour to this that the /culture:en-GB corrects.

A user has identified that in EGV7.11 in Query Builder they had to input date in the MMDD (EN_US) format but in Query Builder EGV7.13 the date is being picked up as DDMM (EN_GB).

(As you probably already know) Testing has shown that specifying "C:\Program Files (x86)\SASHome\x86\SASEnterpriseGuide\7.1\SEGuide.exe" /culture:en-GB or /culture:en-US affects the query builder date formats in EGV7.11 / 7.13 too.

Thanks,

Re: Replacing a DDE process with the SAS Add-in?

Hello All,

Thank you for your responses.

The dataset's the user is creating I believe will work with the SAS Add-in, and we have managed to link up one of the original DDE source datasets with the Add-in with a bit of work involved to form the connection and format correctly in Excel. (The user has over 100 different sheets / datasets however though)

I think the thing we are struggling with is generating these multiple source datasets in the required format (the source is Character format but contains 90% numerics) which DDE would have written these to spreadsheet as. (I've managed to get the user' data to link through with the Excel 'General' format (using SAS best20. format) via the SAS Add-in - so i'm envisaging that going forward all the user would need to do is update these datasets and refresh the add-in and all linked data would then update. The only problem with this is that the user has character values in some of the headings for these cells so converting to Best20. blanks the character out as expected.

The user's Excel spreadsheets are also .xlsm (Excel macro sheet) type which i think makes the ODS Excel tricky? (We are on 9.4 M2 already.

I had wondered about using the Custom VBA script but this would need to more insight from both mine and the users side of things i think. I will do a bit of reading around this to see if this could maybe solve our problem.

Many Thanks,

Replacing a DDE process with the SAS Add-in?

Hello,

As we have moved away from using DDE to export to Excel - I'm working with a user to convert a process from using DDE to instead using the SAS Add-in for Office.

The challenges we have faced is that the user's spreadsheet has a large number of tabs, the source data is dynamic in length and we want the output excel spreadsheet to adjust according the size of the source dataset and also the variable format. Other issues we have experienced when just mapping through using the SAS Add-in has been that the format is incorrect so the user's inbuilt Excel functions and calculations don't work.

To me, If we could copy the way DDE functions but by creating a SAS dataset instead of an Excel spreadsheet - we could then create the connection using SAS Add-In.

So i'm just wondering does anybody have any knowledge of mirroring what is done with DDE but instead producing a pre formatted SAS data set??....as an example the DDE code that was previously used is :

%macro DDEtable(variable_name, SASdataset, sheetname);
filename exceltab dde "excel|[&reportname..xlsm]&sheetname.!r2c1:r999c9";
data _null_;
set local.&SASdataset;
file exceltab lrecl=300 notab dlm='09'x;
put &variable_name volume &ACT_variable &EXP_variable misalignment IV efficiency delta totalvol;
run;
%mend;

%DDEtable(A_Test,out_A_Test,Another_Test);

Hello All,

Quick update on this - this wasn't a permissions issue but we were missing SAS Visual Analytics Extensions for Services from our Test Mid-Tier server.

With regards to the export working with unrestricted Metadata Perms - after discussing with SAS Support apparently the unrestricted Metadata role skips connecting to the content server which is why the export working when accounts were added here.

The was fixed after we'd installed / configured / rebuilt & deployed SAS Visual Analytics Extensions for Services and the WIP application.

Hello All,

Thanks for your responses...

@PaulHomes : With regards to the note I can see all the VA components are on our test metadata server. And the ReadMetadata permissions are in place on the SAS folder structure.

With regards to the content server some interesting behaviour, my user account is unable to validate the content server via SAS MC on both prod and test. I add my user into Metadata - Unrestricted and i am able to validate the server. This however i think is maybe a side issue as this is happening on both our test and prod environments as I am able to export SAS report (2G) on Prod but no Test.

@JuanS_OCS : We are currently running on HTTP so i don't believe the SSL Certificates should be a problem.

@AndrewHowell : The Prod / Test environment are from an applicational sense very similar. I wouldn't however describe them as identical as we have 4 servers on prod and the same SAS apps are consolidated onto 2 servers in test. So there is likely different underlying configurations for the 2 however in essence the SAS application and metadata is very similar. I've not yet run into any issues like this one which indicate a difference in configuration.

Thanks,
Tom

VA - SAS Report (2G) - Typename: Report.BI - Metadata Permissions?

Hello All,

I'm getting an interesting issue when attempting to export VA Reports (SAS Report (2G)) in Management Console the scenario is:

**I'm pretty sure this is metadata permission related but can't find where permission is being denied**

Our Production environment works fine and this issue is confined to our test environment.

1. In SAS MC using my personal SAS user > find report in Metadata > Right Click Report > Export SAS package...

2. Step through export wizard > The export wizard reports that 'The Export process completed with errors' with the error in the log being listed as: ERROR - Error exporting content for SAS report (2G) objects.
java.io.IOException: com.sas.report.repository.RepositoryUnknownTypeException: Unknown metadata object type: 'Report.BI'
at com.sas.bireport.logical.ReportExportListener.exportContent(ReportExportListener.java:179)

3. If i step through this with sasadm account the above works fine

4. If i add my user to unrestricted metadata role the above works fine.

I've been looking around to see if there are any permissions denied on the report folder location / the actual report and the SAS report (2G) type but all permissions look fine and match our prod environment which is working fine.

Just wondering if anybody has seen this behaviour before? Or knows of any other areas to check permissions?

The log file is attached.

Screen shot of SAS Report (2g) settings is attached.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: SAS Mid-Tier WebApplication Server Dependencies - Restarts and Web App Issues

Hello Jag,

Thank you for your response, in the time that passed since I logged this - I've identified some changes that have rectified this behaviour for us. These were.

1. In our Windows Batch scripts SAS service stop / start 's commands were changed from 'net stop'/'net start' to 'sc stop'/'sc start' - Investigations identified that SC is more reliable than NET.

2. Our SAS [Config-Lev4] Web Infrastructure Platform Data Server resides on a different server to the Web or Mid-tier so we were not necessarily stopping / starting as per SAS' advised order (immediately before we stopped the metadata server). The SC provides the functionality to stop services on other servers over the network which enables us to stop all the service exactly how SAS recommends.

In the 2-3months we have been using batch scripts with these changes we have not run into any issues.

Thanks,
Tom

SAS Mid-Tier WebApplication Server Dependencies - Restarts and Web App Issues

Hello,

Since moving to 9.4 and the SAS Web Application Server architecture we have an issue where if we restart services/servers via BAT scripts (in order as per http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/bisag/68240/HTML/default/viewer.htm#p0d9d5nzmd8i4yn1usv2l22vpa7t.htm)

And SAS web app servers in the order

SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer1_1 - WebAppServer

SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer2_1 - WebAppServer

SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer3_1 - WebAppServer

SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer4_1 - WebAppServer

SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer12_1 - WebAppServer

We run into an issue where CI studio does not start - this is only fixed by then manually restarting SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer3_1 - WebAppServer.

Just wondering if anybody know of what a potential cause of this might be? And also as these are Web App Server services could it be that we don't have the correct dependencies in place? And whether during our restart's could i be a case that the SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer1_1 - WebAppServer is not started correctly in TomCat?

This seemingly only affects SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer3_1 - WebAppServer (CI Studio Web App Server). And doesn't affect the VA server SAS [Config-Lev5] SASServer12_1 - WebAppServer.

This is on Windows Server 2008.

Thanks,

Hello,

We are currently looking into what would be required if we were to rebuild out mid-tier SAS server as part of a change to our environment. And are trying to get an understanding of how this might impact content stored. So just wondering does anybody know generally what type of physical content & databases would be affected should we have to rebuild our mid-tier server? (Are we talking WebDav / WIP / VA Reports / CI Studio Campaign etc...)

I've been taking a look at http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/biwaag/69837/PDF/default/biwaag.pdf and so far not got through much of the detail in there, so thought i would also put my query on here.

Many Thanks in advance.

SAS Visual Analytics VA Autoload - EVM ACM data - Format not found or couldn't be load for variable

Hello,

I'm currently investigating and have a track open looking into why some but not all ACM tables do not load into memory as part of our VA autoload.

We are getting the error: 'Format .... not found or couldn't be load for variable ....'

We have stepped through multiple investigation steps which led ultimately to the direction of moving the ACM files from their datamart locationto the autoload location using Proc Cport / Proc Cimport splitting the format move into it's set of code (as per attached code).

I've looked at various notes and performed various tests that have included:

http://support.sas.com/kb/47/100.html#localized

Copy formats into E:\SAS94\Config\Lev4\SASApp\SASEnvironment\SASFormats on SASAPP > restarted objectspawner re-run code. > followed by Autoload scheduled run – This did not affect the auto load of the data (and did not load all tables into memory).

Restart LASR / VA server’s objectspawner > autoload scheduled run – this did not affect the autoload of the data (and did not load all tables into memory)

Copy Formats catalog file into the location : /opt/sas/config/Lev1/SASApp_VAAR/SASEnvironment/SASFormats/ on the linux server > scheduled autoload – This did not affect the autoload of the data. (and did not load all tables into memory)

Just wondering whether anybody here has seen this kind of behavioud before or has anything i could try to fix this?

Thanks in advance,
