PRINQUAL_how does it determine qualitative and quantitative variables

Hello. I am doing study on PCA on a survey. I was told that SAS is best used in those kinds of situations regarding PCA because it is considered powerful in running PCA. The problem is that the data has qualitative AND quantitative variables, which you also call it mixed data. Anyway I stumbled a code called PRINQUAL and I was hoping you can answer these questions:

1. How does the code determine that the variable is either qualitative or quantitative? 1.1 if I doesn’t determine do I need to code something first to make it note if the variables are qualitative or quantitative? Sorry if my questions sound odd I am a novice in running SAS

I think PRINQUAL assumes all variables are numeric and are either continuous or ordinal. If they are categorical, you have to replace them with dummy variables that take on values 0, 1, 2, ... etc. I don't think PRINQUAL is appropriate with variables such as "Q69. LOCALE" or "Q43. CHANNEL OF PAYMENT - Bills Payments (electricity, water, rent, etc.)", which are not ordinal.
