Favorite Keynote at SAS Global Forum 2017

As I reflect on the great conference, my favorite keynote was definitely Colonel Hadfield on Wednesday AM. So inspiring and enlightening.

While I also really enjoyed Colonel Hadfield and thought all this year's keynotes were especially outstanding, my favorite was Anthony Perez of the Orlando Magic. How he moved from being in the finance department to showing a company how the they can use analytics to effectively price and market a sports franchise -both keeping those fans coming even with a losing team and becoming a model for other franchises-- was inspirational.

I realize that this is an heretical point of view, but I've never had any use for the general sessions at SASGF. I don't attend to be inspired or sold to, but to learn stuff. I would rather that the breakout sessions started right after breakfast. As it is, I spent the time until 10:00 getting in some walking.

I actually liked Chris Hadfield, it actually helped me before my session on Wednesday afternoon. I can surely use some of his thoughts in daily life and work.

I enjoyed Chris' presentation, especially his quote: Early success is a poor teacher.

Overall, his presentationwas pretty darned inspiring

I totally agree with @nrozario that Hadfield provided key learnings around success and leadership that will impact my daily deliverables.

@Davanden - I am often also the "take a walk" person instead of attending keynotes - So glad this one caught my eye!!

And @MMMIIIIKKKKEEEE - bang on about early success. It just encourages you to sit back.....

For most of us our careers will include a number of aspects other than pushing semi-colons. We may become managers of those that program or we may have our own business. Regardless of the direction taken by our career, we need to be as ready as we can be for whatever comes our way. Ideally the keynote talks provide some of background that enables us to expand our perceptions and grow our careers in ways that we do not yet appreciate.
