Who else is ready?

I'm really excited to be presenting at SAS Global Forum. I'm been able to attend or present at all but one of the regional user groups and have presented at a ton of the local and corporate user groups, but this is my first time presenting at Global Forum! Who else is a newbie presenter?

Tips from the experienced SAS Global Forum presenters?

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, please stop by the SAS Cares Booth and introduce yourself.

Congrats on finishing the paper and slides!!! A big milestone.

What else do you need to do????? Well..... as a 30+ year attendee at SUGI / SAS Global Forum - and as a many time participant / organizer at the regionals... what is the big "to do"?

BUILD YOUR PRELIM AGENDA - and build in alternates / changes.

There is alot more competing for your attention at any given minute at this conference, than at the regionals.

Thus, My recommendations

(1) create a preliminary agenda (and I always make personal notes of alternate choices in case choice 1 changes or isn't as interesting as anticipated)

2) plan to review the online proceedings when made available *prior to the conference* - and then revise your agenda

3) Practice your presentation (which of course you already know 🙂

Look forward to seeing you in Orlando!

My papers and slides are done too, so now I can "relax" until the conference:-)!

I'm jealous of you both! I'm presenting 3 papers and have barely started on my slides.
Melodie, besides practicing remember not to read your slides, your audience can do that. You want to slides to complement what you say. And I know that when I'm actually presenting, I tend to go faster than practice and have to remind myself to slow down. And be sure to leave time for audience questions!

Excellent work in finishing your paper and presentation. I'm still working on mine...

Looking forward to meeting you in person. In terms of advice, I agree with @Marje, have a preliminary agenda scheduled and be open to change. Be a sponge as there is lots to learn, share, enjoy and people to meet! SASGF is always an adventure!

Melodie,

Well done on completing your paper & slides well ahead of time. I'm still working on my slides.

I must concur with Michelle not to just read from the slides.

Another suggestion (which works for me, may work for you) - make your notes bullet-point only, each bullet point a 3-4 word reminder of a topic. Then you can deliver it naturaly rather than sound like you are reciting from prewritten sentences, and it will flow more easily.

Have you presented elsewhere before - local user groups, your company, maybe?

I'm sure you'll be fine. Remember no-one's out to judge your presentation, we're all part of the broader SAS team - those who turn up will be grateful for you sharing your knowledge.

(And if it's a morning presentation, even though there's lots to do in the evening, try to get a good night's sleep beforehand.. That was MY mistake for my first SGF presentation..)

Best of luck.

Just three more days of work a Saturday and then I board a plane early Sunday morning arriving lunch hour in a Orlando. I will check in with the eposter folks then attend the academic forum later Sunday afternoon.
