This information has been compiled and sent to the Presenter Coordinators, who have been asked to share this with the presenters they were in contact with before the conference regarding paper submission, presentation submission, copyright grants, etc. If your Presenter Coordinator has not sent you the feedback yet, it may be for a couple of reasons: 1) they haven't had a chance to send the information out to you yet, or 2) there may not have been any ratings/comments of your session. In either case, I would contact your Presenter Coordinator and ask for the feedback.

Jennifer

I disagree. At the end of SGF, I am heading home to a full inbox and the last thing I need is more email added to the pile. We are innundated with requests for feedback and surveys. Not just by SAS ,but from everywhere. It's ridiculous. At this point, the only thing I feel when I get another request is annoyed.

I think there is a time limit when it comes to obtaining meaningful feedback. One way may be that the speaker needs to connect to his or her audience enough to ask that they fill out the feedback on the app before they leave the room. But, that's when competition kicks in. At that point, I'd be thinking (as an attendee) that I've got 10 minutes to get in and out of the ladies room, grab a coffee or water and make it over to my next presentation, let alone try to talk to some people. So in order to get feedback, it's got to be easy for the attendee. Not just easy, but super-easy and super-quick. I just opened my 2016 SGF app. First thing I noticed is that none of the icons in the app is for Feedback. Sure, it may be buried under Sessions or My Event, but that's not enough and it speaks volumes. Why should I as an attendee take my time to fill out "feedback:" when SAS didn't even provide an icon for it on the App?

I totally agree with Lori.
Speakers this past year were asked to have the first slide of their presentation be their bio - eliminating the need for often-clumsy introductions by session volunteers. That was a great idea. Maybe we could have the last slide be a reminder to leave feedback - assuming, as Lori points out, that it's super easy to do.

This is a great discussion. Thanks for the feedback.

I took some notes especially as it pertains to the mobile app. The session survey which asks about the presenter is tied to each individual session so that the data is collected correctly and specifically to a session. Perhaps the feedback section could be general questions and open ended comments.

Thanks for the information to consider.

I agree, if you want more feedback, it should be incredibly easy for attendees to leave. I personally like the idea of the app (which knows which sessions you scheduled, if you enter them) sending a push notification (unless you opt-out) right at the end of each session, that says something along the lines of, "Leave feedback for this session "<session title>"?" and a very simple feedback form (less than 5 clicks/presses and optional text entry). I'm unlikely to seek out the form to leave feedback, but if my phone prompts me and I can do it in less than a minute, I likely will.

Needs to be simple. Even paper feedback forms would be good on the chairs - people can fill them in while the session is happening, eliminates any technology woes and provides the opportunity for anonymous feedback for those that would prefer to have this option.

Speaking as a presenter coordinator / section chair and as a presenter at multiple user group conferences, I think that there's a mix of people using the app (but possibly not all of its potential uses) and paper schedules - at least at the regionals - and at least one regional, there wasn't much publicity or use of the app at all. It might be helpful at opening sessions to have a demo of how to use the app... Another possibility would be to have a pop-up notification come up asking for a rating when a session is due to end if the user has "starred" a presentation - and give them an instant bar chart or something like a raffle entry as a reward for rating. Kind of like the super-users in this forum. Or maybe we could have exit polls...

I'm not entirely comfortable with incentives for providing feedback. It's good to publicize the app and to remind people that it it exists and that we would like them to provide feedback. That way, the people who intend to say something will think, "Oh yeah, I need to remember to do that." With incentives, you get into the area of people who didn't really have anything to say but are putting ratings in order to win the contest. I don't think that tells you very much, other than what default rating people give when they don't have a real opinion.

It's just an idea but maybe the Feedback Console will be a good way to provide easily and simply feedback during or shortly after the presentation. Please have a look at attached picture. A common use case for this is to discover how people feel about a particular topic. Every time people leave the room they can easily press the button and leave the vote

Pros:
º no crowd - every time you leave the room you can easily press the button and vote
º no problems with the phone/the app
º everyone who participate in the session are eligible to vote
º easy to access for all of the people
º easy to access all the time (especially in the exit)

Cons:

º no security (if someone press the button several times but there can be one supervisor/volunteer at the end of session)
º no fruitfull feedback - only opinion mining & statistics (how many people voted, how many were happy or not etc.)
º costs (?)
