How to create offline map (offline map tiles) server in SAS Visual Analytics

Hi,

I want to inquire on how to create an offline map (which has offline map tiles) server since the client's server is just having an intranet service but no network connection or internet connection outside using SAS Visual Analytics 8.5.

Hey @Rian0126! If your client has a local Esri or OpenStreetMap server, you can specify them in Environment Manager for their basemaps. In addition, you can pull in Esri feature services for rendering polygons, or you can pull shapefiles into CAS and render them in Visual Analytics.

For more information on configuring local Esri or custom OpenStreetMap servers, see: Configuration Properties - Maps Service. The customOSM.servers and localEsriServicesUrl properties are the configuration options of interest.

Hi @Stu_SAS ,

Sorry for late reply because I'm trying to simulate how to configure the links for the osm and esri/arc gis.

Can I also use other map servers other than osm and ersri/arc gis? If yes, under which URL in sas.maps' configuration properties in the Environment Manager should I use?

In addition, can you recommend a free map server that I can test? I searched and found these two possible web map servers = https://mapserver.org/download.html#source (this one, I still need to check on how to get the web map server link)and https://manifold.net/updates/download_viewer.shtml (this one, I think needs the paid version for me to access and create a map server since the free version does not have the capability).

Here's some extra info on the "shapefile package(s) option".

The .dbf is a mandatory file to have in a shapefile package.
Our SAS importing tools were written around that definition. Otherwise, there’s no way to identify your polygons in an associative way. Here are several references to “shape files” that identify the files that must be, and can be, included in the package.

shape files should contain the countries you are interested in.
You probably need provinces, municipalities, sous-communes, statistical regions (from your national statistical agency), and all streets.
Preferably with geo-coding of all buildings.

Only OSM map tile servers are supported at this stage. If you don't want to configure your own tile server - you could also try the preloaded (free) ISO or VM images such as https://live.osgeo.org which come with everything pre-configured. There is some minor configuration required and you will also need to download the actual tiles of the geographical area you interested but this should get you started quickly. Hope this helps. Falko
