Link to a Specific SAS VA in Edit Mode Rather than Viewer

Is there a way to give an end-user a link to open a report directly in edit mode? We have an HTML portal that end users go to, external to SAS VA, that contains links to SAS VA reports that open in SAS VA Viewer. We are looking at sending some users to template reports with edit access. Ideally, they could click a single link to access these reports in Report Designer.

SAS confirmed this cannot be done.

For what it's worth, in VA 8.4 and later the viewer and editor are integrated and it is a single button click to switch in and out of editing mode.
