Proc http and trailing blanks

I have a question concearning Proc Http and trailing blanks.

I've been sending get requests to google maps geocoding api.

The strings I've been passing to the url has contained trailing blanks which hasn't caused a problem untill recently when I started getting 403-responses from google.

The easy solution was offcourse to remove the trailing blanks and now it all works.

But when I look at the urls in the logs I can't see any difference in the urls. So what I'm asking is why does trailing blanks cause a problem when the passed url looks the same?

That sounds a lot like google changed the parser for the passed values.
