If my field contains the string "123" and its length is 5, I want it to contain the string "00123"....I can´t use the instruction LPAD in SQL...</description>

You can get to the SAS documentation for SAS 8, 9.1.x and 9.2 off the web.  within the documentation, look for BaseSAS, Language Dictionary, Formats.</description>
