topic reading numbers as text when importing from excel in SAS Procedures

Hello,

I have an excel file, I am using proc import to read it in. One column is account numbers and instead of reading it in as a text it alters the format.

e.g. An account number might be 123456789 and in sas it ends up something like 1.23456E+12

I have been getting around it by putting apostrophes before it in excel but I need to find a more automated way.

Any help would be appreciated. I am sure I have fixed this before but can't remember how.
