Any character that is in the OS collating sequence can be read as part of the value of a character variable.  You can't always see it, but that is a limitation of your display/print technology, not of SAS' ability to read it.  (You can always print it in hex format, but that's ugly to read.)</description>

  Variable NAMES must conform to the SAS naming conventions for variable names. Variable VALUES can contain just about any character in the collating sequence.&lt;BR /&gt;
